agrelia, as you like it

agrelia, as you like it is an intimate excursion into the unfolding relationship between forager-artisan Pericles Gavriel and myself, while foraging wild asparagus. Set in the Cypriot countryside οf Larnaca district, the film resists extractivist means of filming, offering a shared journey shaped by trust, reciprocity, and care. As the landscape shifts, so does our bond—through glances, offerings, and silences. The return home completes a cycle of gestures that honour the ethics of witnessing, memory, and companionship.
SYMPRAXIS: Livathkia & Canes
Produced by Xarkis NGO | Audio-visual editing: Phivos Philitas, Christina Skarpari | Editing assistance: Andreas Kleanthous | With the participation of: Pericles Gavriel and Chrystoulla Gavrie
In the village of Livadia, master artisans Chrystoulla and Pericles Gavriel sustain the endangered cane-weaving crafts of psatharka and kalamoti. The film moves at the pace of the craft—slow and deliberate—interweaving facets of the home, trial and error, laughter, and quiet pauses. Intimate breaks give way to candid reflections on the fragile future of their practice, highlighting both its poetry and the cascading, structural neglect that threatens such traditions. In revealing the artisans’ humour, ingenuity, and ecological sensitivity, the film becomes more than a record of cultural heritage: it is an ode to friendship, a meditation on the politics of slowness, patience, and a call for more porous, inclusive, living cultural spaces.

SYMPRAXIS: between vessels is a film rooted in long-term, practice-based research and ongoing community engagement. Set in Kornos, it traces the endangered craft of red clay pottery while following the rhythms of potters’ lives. Embedded in the potters’ routines—between home and workshop, mountains and plains—the film reflects on visibility, power dynamics, and the politics of representation. Through a feminist lens of care, I explore notions of identity, labour, and belonging, highlighting the often-unseen, intergenerational labour of women in sustaining cultural ecosystems. The film offers a poetic, visually meditative, and sonically rich encounter shaped by these evolving relationships.
